A COLD WAVE
SNOWSTORM IN SUB-TROPICAL STATES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, December 15. (Received December 16, 5 p.m.). A message from Chicago states that twelve persons were frozen to death in a snowstorm, which swept the entire southwest, where the climate is sub-tropical and snow rare. The blizzard, which was accompanied by high winds, did most damage in Texas and New Mexico, bringing to a halt rail and motor traffic and disrupting communications. Rescue parties have been organised to dig out seventy-two snow-bound motors, containing 300 passengers, who have been stranded for twelve hours.
Meanwhile, a severe cold wave is progressing eastward, penetrating even Florida, which is a renowned winter resort.
