GRADING OF TEACHERS
IMPORTANT AMENDMENTS. (Special to the Times.) WELINGTON, November 19. Amending regulations that are regarded by the Education Department as having an important bearing on the grading of teachers are announced. These regulations provide in regard to primary school teachers that when the grading has been altered during the year by an increase in the status of certificate, the increase grading mark shall be awarded immediately and shall operate in the case of all appointments. It is also provided that when a teacher is graded for the first time during the year, as happens when he or she qualifies by age for the issue of a certificate subsequent to the general annual grading, the name of such teacher is to be included immediately in the general grading list. A further amendment provides that when the Appeal Board decides that an appellant should have additional marks, the apportionment of the marks under the van ous grading or categories shall be determined by the senior inspector. An important change has also been made in the grading regulations in the direction of providing for appeal against the grading of another teacher. Should the Appeal Board decide that the grading of the teacher appealed against should be reduced, such teacher will have an opportunity to state his or her case before the board.
