ATHLETICS. HARRIERS FOR AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON, June 19. A meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held to-night, Mr A. T. Davies (chairman) presiding. It was decided to hold the New Zealand Crosscountry Championship meeting in Canterbury on August 4. Mr Heenan moved that a team, comprising seven selected men, should be sent to compete in the Australasian cross-country championship and that the Council give £5O towards expenses. He urged that it was quite time the Council realised its responsibilities towards harriers. The Council was unanimous on the question of sending a team, but the amount of subsidy caused some discussion and the matter was left over. Regarding the selection of a team, it was thought other centres should have a voice in the matter, also that it would stimulate their help and interests. It was decided that the secretary should write to the Canterbury, Otago and Wellington centres to nominate a selector.
