POLITICAL GOSSIP
MR BOLLARDS POSITION PROBABLY THE NEW MINISTER ESTIMATES READY. (Special to the Times). WELLINGTON, June 17. Cabinet had a prolonged meeting on Saturday, lasting for six hours. At the conclusion the Prime Minister stated that the chief business concerned measures to be brought down by the Government at the present session. It was learned that the statement of a certain section of the press that Mr Bollard had been appointed to the Ministry was not correct, also the statement that Mr Bollard would be given the portfolio of Native Affairs was a'so wide of the mark. It is not contemplated to remove the administration of Native Affairs from the hands of the Hon. J. G. Coates. It is now considered likely that a special Gazette will be issued on Monday or Tuea» day, appointing a new Minister, and there is no reason to depart from last Wednesday’s forecast, that Mr Bollard is likely to be chosen. Mr Massey indicated that a number of Government Bills would be brought down on Ttiesday, but did not disclose the nature of the Bills. The heads of the Treasury were in constant attendance on the Prime Minister on Saturday, so it is safe to assume that the Estimates, which are now ready, and the financial. Bills, will be forthcoming when the House meets.
