UNPLEASANTNESS AT FEATHERSTON. (Per United Press Association.) CARTERTON, September 23. The deputy-Mayor (Mr J. W. Smith) and seven councillors of Fcathcrfiton Borough Council resigned in a body yesterday evening as an answer to a by-clection whereby a member of the. Council, who was suspended for alleged insulting conducf, and who had resigned without withdrawing the remarks objected to, was returned and is again sitting at the Council. It was considered that such action on the part of the electors was a vote of no-confidence in them, and therefore they resigned, and declined to seek re-election. Difficulty :s anticipated in obtaining a new council.
