HE ans INCREASING. At the annual meeting of the Southland Acclimatisation Society last night the ques'lon of Issuing more licenses for deer stalk'was introduced by Mr John Gilkison. He stated that recently he was in the Manapcuj'i district, and residents had informed him that deer were present in groat r mihers. The increase was becoming a !!U nr.ee to paste relists in that district, and rightly or wrongly they were talking of {■•' king matter; into their own hands. The time was approaching when the Society should incrri!.-e the number of licenses. Mr G. I. Moffett said that it had been the aim of the Society to provide good shooting for its sportsmen. The herds were young, and they might stand an increase in licenses. The president (Mr A. H. Stock) said that if. would be a good idea to g<-l reports from .•■’ll those who had Licenses this season, and then the Society would he in a hotter position to judge. It was decided to obtain reports and to consider the question of increasing the number of license:; issued at a future meeting.
