NOTES FROM CHRISTCHURCH. (By Sir Modred.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 13. Wild stories are in circulation to the effect that the steamer carried the Auckland steeplechaser, Gluepot, on to Dunedin, but well-informed northerners say that he arrives at Riccarton to-morrow. Rcwi Poto (F. Flynn) is greatly fancied for the National Hurdles, but good judges agree that the race is likely to be an interesting one, more especially if a moody horse such as Marconi takes it into his head to gallop. Visitors from the North Island have a great respect for Art. The Southland trotter, Bellflower, is looking very well, and is moving soundly. The Winton mare, Annie K., wears a fit appearance, but has been travelling unsteadily on the track since her arrival. Gemma, trained by P. Delargey, wilt probably be ridden in the races by a good horseman, J. McLennan. Of the square trotters worked to-day nothing travelled better than Lady Patricia, who must race well at the meeting. Admiral Wood and Antonio, who arc moving well, will be driven by Hendricksen in their respective races. Lady Haldane, Moneymaker, and Watchman, worked out by Pringle, put in highly satisfactory work to-day. The first-named was anxious to increase the pace. Watchman, trained and owned by W. Quirk, appears to be well. The Southland pacing mare, Lady Rothsoon, has grown and furnished into a valuable racing proposition. She looks like getting into the money before the end of the week. South Island jockeys defeated the North Island at Rugby by 12 points (four penalties) to 9 points.
