A letter of thanks was received from Dunedin for Southland's promptitude in offering to supply a proportion of the Mamma's requirements, and also accept mg the offer of 75 khaki quilts for that ship. The Department of Internal Affairs acknowledged £SO sent to Dr Hogg through them, and Dunedin acknowledged 97 cases sent during July. General Richardson (London! cabled that Red Cross Societies might provide on overseas liners cigarettes, tobacco, aerated wafers, chocolate, and writing pads for returning disabled soldiers. This was agreed to, cost not to exceed £1 ocr man. Mr Elgar’s communication from London recommending that part of the N.Z. Red Cross funds should be applied to teaching trades to New Zealand disabled men there, and subsidising hospitals for special treatment for New Zealand wounded was approved of meanwhile. The Red Cross Committee at Home with the War Contingent Association to carefully consider and advise the New Zealand Societies as to the

steps being taken in this matter. The Department of Internal Affairs wrote that empty petrol cases sent to Invercargill from country districts would he carried free, as they are used for packing cases for Red Cross goods.—A vote of thanks to the Hon, G. W. Russell was passed for his action in this matter.

As the work lately has been pressing somewhat heavily on members owing to sickness, etc., it was decided to add the names of Mrs Honey wood, Misses Jean Thomson and Mcßride as auxiliary helpers. Mrs Petrie reported that 7122 articles had been packed during July by the Ambulance Department. Bills amounting to £630 7s 9d were passed for payment and a hearty vote of thanks to the buyers for the care and foresight they had exercised was also passed. The secretary reported that bills amounting to £250 had been paid by countrybranches, goods in value to £l4O 3s 6d had been sent out, 647 garments were cut out during July. Mr Riddell was thanked for a handsome gift of extra shelves to the room, and Mr Young (Rosednle mills) for three balls of binder twine.
