PRESBYTERY OF SOUTHLAND

The Southland Presbytery met at First Church on Tuesday when the Rev. J. Baird was appointed to the chair in the absence of the moderator. The Presbytery resolved to send an expression of sympathy to the relatives of Corporal O. F. Cowie, who nad been killed in action. Mr Crulckshank came before the Presbytery from St. Paul’s congregation and explained the steps that were being taken by the congregation in connection with Mr Burrldgc’s resignation. It was resolved that consideration of the resignation be held over. The Rev. A. Gray, Ravensbourne, was nominated as next moderator of Synod. A grant in terms of the regulation for repairs for the Walrio Church from Synod was approved.

The following commissions were appointed to conduct Presbyterial visitation in the congregations named : —St. Pauls : Rev. R, Mackie (convener), K. Macdonald’ and Mr Cowie; Orepuki : Revs. C. Gray and J. H. Robertson and Mr Hill; Otautau : Revs. E. Bandy and R. Morgan and Mr Allison; Oteramika : Revs. G. H. Jupp and R. M. Ryburn and Mr Officer; Riverton ; Revs. A. Begg and E. Bissett and the Waianlwa elder; Toi Tois: Revs. J. Collie and N. B. Hunre and Mr Haining; AVaianlwa : Revs. J. Baird and A. K. Ross and the Wallacetown elder; Waikawa ; Revs. E. W. Walker and W. Findlay and Mr Lawson: Athol: Revs. T. J. Taylee and A. K. Fisher and Mr Hoy; Colac: Revs. J. Chisholm and J, S. Young and the Riverton elder. The following were appointed to the Home Mission districts : Colac Bay : Rev. E. Swinerd; Tuatapere; Mr R. Hill; and Stewart Island: Rev. I. K. Mclnt>r Hie Presbytery resolved regarding Home Mission collections to affirm its approval of the enedavour being made by the Assembly’s H. M. committee to secure an adequate stipend for our H.M. agents, to assure the committee of its continued interest in the work of church extension and to commend the fund to the liberality of the people. The Woodlands Deacon’s Court reporter! that a section had been bought between Woodlands and Morton Mains and a Sunday School building had been erected upon it. The Revs. Jupp, I>eg£, Gray, Collie and Ryburn, and Messrs Cowie, Baxter and Clark were appointed a committee to deal with Sustentation Fund matters. The Presbytery adjourned to meet on April 3rd.
