THE ROLL OF HONOUR
SERGEANT O. P, COWIE. Sergeant Oswald Ferguson Cowie, who was reported to have been killed on February 23, enlisted on January 26, 1916, and left with the 15th Reinforcements. He was born 23 years ago at “Mayfield," Winton, and was educated at the Winton District High School and the South, land Boys’ High School. He was the son of Mr John and Mrs Elspet Cowie, and at the time he enlisted was a member of the staff of the Union Bank at Wellington. He was at one time a prominent member of the Invercargill Banks Hockey Club, and later of the Wellington Banks’ Hockey Club. When at school he represented Southland at Rugby football against the Otago schools representative team. In Wellington he played. football very successfully for the Oriental senior fifteen as wing three-quarter. In 1914 he captained a sevcn-aslde team which won the Manawatu championship. He was also a very keen golfer and tennis player, and on several occasions played tennis for Winton and also played for a Wellington club. He was very fond of rowing and swimming, and was a fine piano player. ■
