VALEDICTORY
\ social and dance was held in the Dipton Public Hall on Monday evening. 2Gth February, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Thomas Whitaker, who are leaving the DiPton district for Invercargill. The concert portion of the entertainment was carried out by the chairman, Mr N. McCurdy and committee. Songs were contributed by Messrs L. Foster. .1. Murtagh F. Anderson, and the Misses V. Conley 1 McCurdy, .lean Groat, and V. Scfton. The Highland dancing by the Misses Ward and Scamon, of Invercargill, was a great treat to the Dipton peoPl Supper was in the capable hands of Messrs Marshall and Cochrane, after which the main feature of the evening was the presentation to Mr and Mrs Whitaker which consisted of a purse of sovereigns and two beautifully designed arm chairs, the work of Messrs Broad, Small and Co. Several spoke of the high qualities of the guests of the evening, and Mr Whitaker ably responded. Dancing was indulged in until the small hours of the morning, and was concluded by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
