RIOT IN CAMP
INCIDENT AT TAKAi’AU. JIOI'NTJiO POUJCE STONED. (Per United Press Association). TAKAI’AU CAMP. May A regrettable but very ugly incident occurred at the divisional encampment at Takapau after dark to-night. The men's tempers weie tried by the wet weather and they venred their grievances in something like n riot. The complaints wc . re —That the men were not allowed to bring multi to camp to give them a chance of changing when .wet: that country units would be, absent seventeen days instead of thirteen, according to the regulations. and town units eleven instead of nine, and that there was insufficient food. After harangufng the lines the men rushed to headquarters and assumed a threatening attitude. They were dispersed by the mounted police, who were reccdved with a volley ot sticks and stones. The crowd took a long time in dispersing, but eventually quietened and returned to £ their tents.
