LAND BALLOT
A land ballot was held at the Lards Office yesterday. In all the ballots some applicants were rejected, and preference was given to landless applicants and to married men with families dependent upon them. There were three lots balloted for. including the Maori Hill Settlement, which was lately purchased by the Government, under the Land for Settlement Act. The other two blocks were Crown lands situated in the Longwood Survey District and in the Campbelltown Hundred respectively. The Maori Hill land is under a renewable lease only, under the “Land for Settlement Act," and the Longwood block is' also under the renewable lease owing to its being in a mining district. The Campbelltown land is under the optional tenure. The following is the result of the ballot for land in the Maori Hill Settlement: —Section 4, block 2, Waiau Survey District —Wm. Cavanagh ; section 5. block 2—John Chamberlain: section 6, block 2—Harry King; section 7, block 2—Wm. Todd: section 12. block 2 Jane H. Findlay; section 13, block 2 J. W. Johnstone. Sections 10, 11, 14 and 15 were not taken up, and are now' open for selection. The ballot for Longwood sections resulted:—Section 17, block ,3 — Maggie C. Lowe; section 17, block 3 Charles English; section 19, block 3 Jennie Shaw; sections 20, block ,2 —Mary A. .Armstrong: section 12, block 12 — Maggie Wills; section 14, block 12— Catherine Byrne, Sections 10, 11, 13, 15 and 16, block 12, are still open for selection. The following were the successful applicants for land in the Campbelltown Hundred: —Sec. 64. block 9—Samuel Taylor: section 9, block 10 —Albert Saunders. The remaining- sections adver tlsed as open for selection are still open.
