IMPREST SUPPLY
AN UNEXPECTED BIDE. TO MEET URGENT DEMANDS. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter). WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Unexpectedly, an Imprest Supply Bill was brought down by Governor’s message in the House this afternoon. Mr Massey wanted to know why the Bill should have boon Introduced so early in the month and urged that Us consideration should be delayed until the evening, so as to enable members to discuss answers to questions. Sir Joseph Ward admitted that the Bill was brought down earlier- than usual. It was found, however, that the applications made and granted under the Advances to Settlers scheme were greater- Ilian was expected ; £91,000 was required for that purpose, and ii was required tills week. In connection with advances to workers, the Government required £II,BOO by way of increase, and for local authorities it required an additional £26,000. A good deal of the money was required the next day, and that was lire reason why lie asked tire House to pass the Bill that day. The House accepted the explanation and adjourned discussion of tiro Bill until the evening.
