Wo have received from the secretary of the Otago-Agricultural and Pastoral Societj the -schedule of prizes for the coming winter show, which is to open in Dunedin on Wednesday, June 14. The prize list Is very complete, and the schedule neatly got up. Several large prizes are given this year as an> encouragement to exhibitors at the winter carnival. For the county bays Messrs Duthie Bros.’ trophy. valued at 35 guineas, is still to be competeT for, and, in addition to this, the society offers a first prize of 15 guineas, a second of 10 guineas, a third of five guineas, and a fourth of five guineas, as well as the sum of £2O donated to each county competing towards defraying the cost oi erecting the stands. With these handsome additional prizes the cominittet (eels confident that keen competition will result this year. A handsome trophy ol 25 guineas in the form of -a cup has been presented by the Union S.S. Company of New Zealand for the best exhibit of export cheese (scwt). The Wyndham Dairy Factory Company (Limited), winners oi the Taieri and Peninsula Milk Supply Company’s trophy, offers a cup, valued at 25 guineas, for the best three boxes of factory butter most suitable for export. In addition to this, large prizes are given by the society for this class. •The Mosgiel Woollen Factory Company ofiers a special prize of live guineas to the exhibitor gaining the largest number of points in bread and scones, a substantial prize being also donated by the society for these interesting classes. A new departure has been made this year in cheese and butter. To encourage the managers of dairy factories in Canterbury, Otago, and Southland to ’give special care and attention to the manufacture of cheese and butter, the shipping companies and the society offer the sum ©I £4OO as special prizes, to be distn iuted over a period of five years, these prizes are awarded to the cheese and butter-makers whose factory output for the season gained the highest number oi points according to the certificate .ssued by the Government graders. The commit tee feels confident that this will be a most attractive exhibition at the winter show, and from the large number of entries received by the secretary very considerable interest will be taken by all visitors to the show, these exhibits being most instructive and of educationa value. . ... In the fat stock classes the prize list, bos been carefully revised, and handsome special prizes are given by-the society for this section.
