ORIGINAL POETRY.
The following lines were brought to our office \tj a poeta Tion fit' Ween treat him to "go and sin no more" . — LAY OF A TOBACCO PIPE. Powerful I am (no doubt), I don't deny That in my bowl the oil doth gurgling sigh ; But when I foul become, please give fair play, Aud do not spurn me as you would a " clay."' But, with a little spirit, OH ! do me clean ! And with twig of millet brbom make "all serene." Then by your fireside many hours I'll pass In social union with the toddy glass ! Don't smoke me low, or else my coat you'll burn, Then iv a month a brilliant black I'll turn. My amber stem is clouded as you see, Not from the clouds which from my bowl doth flee. But when my now dark skin was white and fair, The artist deeming clouded amber rare, Fix'd it to my stem with skilful hand, Tho pressure of strong " whiffs" to stand Meeeschacu.
