THE WILLIAM ANDERSON DRAMATIC COMPANY.
Whether tlie building of a Municipal Theatre in this town is going to prove a financial success or not it is not within our province to say, but whether or no it is an absolute necessity, and its advent will be hailed with delight, not only by the townspeople but by leading showmen visiting our colony, who invariably make Dunedin their starting point, not because (hia is a poor show town, but because lack of a proper theatre and conveniences forces them on. Even already, since the new theatre has been put under way, we are receiving attention from a better class of companies. As an instance, we have the William Anderson organisation paying their maiden visit to Invercargill this week, and to show that first-class talent is appreciated we may add that it takes the Zealand* Hall all its time to accommodate the audiences. This must be very gratifying to the management, and they have announced their intention to include Invercargill in their quarterly circuit. Those who have not yet seen the company ought to make a point of being there this evening, and see this master combination handle one of their numerous dramatic productions. When the building of the theatre is finished it may not prove such a 4 white elephant ’ as some think and by-and-by the Mayor and Crs., of Invercargill may be landed for the energy displayed in the undertaking.
