• BRITANNIA F.C. BALL.

A very enjoyable evening was spent in Ashley’s Hall on Friday, the 28th August, the occasion being the Britannia Football Club’s Ball. Between 70 and 80 couples were present. The hall was beautifully decorated. Firstclass music was supplied by Mrs Blue and Mr R. A. Edwards. As space is limited, I will only give youa few details of the costumes worn by the gentlemen, which were novel and artistic. Mr C. Purdue came forward in a Britannia suit, forsaken collar, pretty tie, and prunella boots to match. Mr J. Herbie looked very becoming in a maroon frock coat, art muslin trousers, lovable collar, “ weep not ” tie and handkerchief. Mr P. Fraser was just the sweet thing in a “ New Century ” costume, matrimonial collar, and sunrise tie ; gloves to match. Mr D. Haines looked splendid in his “ Coronation levee ” suit, kia ora collar, Khaki tie. Mr P. Ward was a perfect picture in his “Highland costume” Mr A. Grinlay looked very nice in a costume of “ King Richard Seddon ” period, with a becoming button-hole, shoes and stockings. Mr R. McKenzie was the pride of the orchard in an art muslin-suit, Titiroa collar, with shoes and stockings and pretty garters. Mr K. C. Wells looked well in a wallflower suit, “ kiss-me-quick ” trimmings. Mr Angus Cameron was very charming in a dove-cashmere suit, “ Sir Joseph collar,” rose pink tie, with fan to match. Mr T. Boyle wore a charming costume with glittering spangles. Mr Frank Anna looked very handsome in a purple velvet suit, rational collar, rememberme tie, gloves to match. Mr J. Williamson charmed the eyes of the fair sex in a dainty costume of blue chiffon, pearl buckles, Celtic collar, love-me-all tie. Mr McFadyn was very fetching in the “ Wearing of' the Green ” coat and vest, Master’s saddle tweed pants, regatta collar, ever true tie.

Messrs G-. and A. Reid Bros, were very stylish in Up-to-date suits, Geisha collars, ping pong ties, with slippers to match, Mr H. Murphy was very popular among the fair sex in a honey-comb suit, acetelyne oollar, rep. tie. Messrs A. and W. Fraser Bros, blossomed out in the latest Grasmere style, doublefurrow collars and Cemo ties. Mr J. Wills looked easy-ozy as ever in a beautiful Strathspey suit, opoponax collar, constant true tie. . Mr M. Commings looked dandy in a Cooperative suit, becoming collar, Glendhu tie, and a handsome button-hole. Without a doubt the “belle ” of the evening was Mr William Ball, who charmed everybody in a handsome moleskin suit, Dresden collar, lovable tie, pretty openwork stockings, satin shoes, and wno wore a beautiful bouquet of bachelors buttons.
