MAKAREWA.

“ The shades of night” had fallen, but the snow was still descending on Friday, 10th July, the evening chosen by the Makarewa bachelors for their annual ball. “ But faint heart never won fair lady,” and so it happened that between 60 and 70 couples made their way to the schoolhouse and footed it right merrily till four o’clock next morning to the music of Messrs Ferguson and Harvey.
