HANDEL'S "MESSIAH.”

Oar readers will be reminded of the approach of Christmas by the announcement that under the auspices of the Musical Union a performance of Handel’s “ Messiah ” will take place on Friday, Dec. 12th. This should be a great occasion to lovers of music. Members of the city choirs and others are invited to co-operate, and Mr Gray, the conductor, will be pleased to receive the names of those intending to take part. Ho pains, we may be certain, will be spared to make the forth-

coming performance a memorable one. . Handel's masterpiece spells enthusiasm the wide world over, and not least of all in little Invercargill, where oratorio has always been popular, and the “ Messiah ” in particular is held in reverent esteem. *
