[Members o£ Gun Clubs are invited to contribute to this column. Items of news, reports of matches, meetings and ail matters of interest to shooting men will be welcomed if they reach this office by five p.m. on Thursdays. Address, “ Chokebore,” Southern Cross office, Invercargill.] Notes by “ Chokebore.” The Invercargill contingent, to take part in the match at Gore next Wednesday, consists of Messrs McVinish, Bain, Dunlop, and McGavoek. The following are the handicaps for the Gore Gun Club’s Spring stakes, fixed for November sbh : Handicap. yds. E. P. Graham ... 31 J, Graham ... 28J E. A. Pigeon ... 25 * Johnston ... 25 A. McVinish ... 25 Crow ... 24 JTopham ... 2 4 B. Dunlop ... 24 D. Bain ... 24 * Eallistite ... 24 A. Gardiner ... 24 H. Dawson ... 24 O. Wilson ... 24 J. Beattie ... 24 E. J. Cameron ... 24 G. Butel ... 23-2 * Goldspur ... 23 A. McGavoek ... 221- * Novice ... 22 * Powell ... 21s * Assumed names. A glance at the handicaps of the Q-ore Gun Club will be of interest. In the first place, B. P. Graham, who won a sweep in Christchurch off 31 yards, killing 11 right out first barrel, should certainly have been penalised. ‘Goldspur’ (23yds), who won the last Gore match off 23k yards with a score of 22, is let down with only half a yard. Again, Bain, who was unplaced in the same match, is penalised half a yard, and shoots the same turns as ‘ Goldspur.’ ‘ Novice ’ should be well satisfied (22yds) and so should J. Graham (28fyds). •fn a sparrow sweep on Wednesday afternoon, J. J. won, killing all his birds quickly. A. Ralston won the inanimate sweep with 10 out of 12, Good boy, Andy ! Mr J. J. Taylor is fast becoming a ■very good shot at clays, and in him the Old Vet. says he has the coming champion shot of N.Z. ‘ J.J.’ intends to visit Gore on Wednesday to have a ‘ go ’ at the inanimate sweeps. I was pleased to see big ‘ Mac ’ at the traps again the other evening—7 out of 12 being his best. ‘ Mac ’ says he was ‘ just experimenting,’ so something great may be looked for from him. Tom Double has still the lease of the Bast Road, and may be seen every day doing his rounds. Tom says bis brother George is nearly as good as himself with the gun, and gets in some pretty second barrel shots. This is saying a good deal tor George, and 1 extend to him a hearty welcome to the club grounds. The Avenal contingent are hard at practice every evening at the back of Cleave’s nursery, and some very good shooting is being done by Messrs Bain, McGavoek and Dunlop. In conversation with Jack Gorton last week, he informed me that he is working in the Otautau district, but has very little time for trap shooting. He is, however, still as keen as ever on outside shooting, and Jack is, I believe, tryieg to form a gun club in the Otautau district.
