RIFLE SHOOTING FOR LADIES.
I notice by last week’s Press that a ladies’ match was fired at Oaraaru on the Queen’s Birthday, some very good scores being recorded, notably two 28’a out of a possible 36, the compilers being Miss Cleland and Mrs Higgs. Oamaru ladies, it appears, take a keen interest in shooting matters, and it is said will have some representatives at Wanganui in 1899. It must be very gratifying to the male shootists to find tke fair sex
displaying a kindred spirit in this fascinating recreation, and their presence on the range must edd considerably to its attractiveness, and attach a certain amount of grace and dignity to the sport. Why should the ladies of Invercargill not show some sympathy in this respect also P I am sure they are quite as capable as the ladies of Oamaru of excelling in the art of marksmanship. Let them display their ability in a practical form, and I am quite sure we will find that Invercargill will be worthy of a representative in the Ladies Team which it is proposed to send to the Federal Rifle meeting in New South Wales in November.
