LOCAL DOINGS.
A recent visitor to the Waiau informs me that he had a good time, and found the road in capital order. After all, Mr R. W. Jones did not have a chance to look down on his fellow-mortals at the show. The 4 Eiffel Tower ’ bike was required in Australia at a given date, and so the local exhibition had perforce to be abandoned. A gentleman who saw Mr Jones aloft in Christchurch says he must have no end of nerve—he could admire, but would not care to imitate, him. The recent spell of sunshine has had a vivifying effect on the cycling fraternity. They have beep out and about in all directions, and making the ‘wheels go round’ to some purpose. Th® entries for the two mile wheel race closed on Saturday, and thirty names were received, including a number from Dunedin. I believe the riders from the north are bringing pacing machines with them, and as these will be the first seen here they should be an attraction in themselves. Fancy and trick riding by a local man is another item on the programme. It is said that his exhibition will be well worth seeing and that some of his feats of balancing are quite extraordinary.
