J. A. MITCHELL AND CO
report having held their fortnightly sale of stock at the Invercargill yards on Tuesday. The attendance was a medium one, but there was a great want of animation in the sale throughout, and only at low prices could business be done. The entries were 94 fat and 214 store cattle, 1048 fat and 643 store sheep, and these numbers proved quite sufficient for requirements. Fat Cattle —Best bullocks reached L 7 ; medium, L 6 to L 6 10s ; light, L 5 to L 5 10s ; cows, L 4 to L 6. Store Cattle—Cows in milk or close to calving brought L 3 10s to L4los ; dry cows for grazing, from 35s to 60s : calves, 10s to 12s; yearlings, 20s to 255; two-year-olds, 40s to 50s.—No grown cattle forward. Sheep.—Best merino ewes and wethers, 12s 6d to 12s; medium, 10s to 11s ; shorn sheep, 6s to 7s Cd ; store sheep, (mixed sexes'), 8s to 10s; hoggets, 7s 6d to 8s ; ewes with lamb 10s to 12s. Horse Market—On Saturday we had only a small entry and the demand was limited, unless for good young sorts, which are always enquired for. We quote prime heavy draughts at L 25 to L3O; medium, LlB to L2O ; aged and inferior, L 8 to LI2. Hacks are still dull of sale.
