MATAURA.
Mr Patterson has offered to act as conductor to the band, and the annual meeting will be held on Tuesday, Ist Dec., when it is to be hoped that the public will attend in force, and encourage the band to give a good account of themselves. The Mutual Improvement class closed a very pleasant & useful session on Wednesday, when the President (Mr W. C. Ladbrook) gave an address. Recitations were contributed by Messrs T. and A. Pryde, J. S. Shanks, W. J. Way, A. Galt, and
H. W. Stewart, and Miss Pryde, and songs by Miss McLeod, Miss M. McLeod, and Mr Way, while the choir gave several choruses.
The sum of £5 is to be devoted to the purchase of prizes for competition by members of the Rifle Club. This should make members bestir themselves during the season.
Mr H. Cameron had a walk-over for the mayoralty owing to the retirement, through illness, of Mr Culling, who is, I am glad to report, making good progress towards recovery. Mr who has resigned the management of the Paper Mills to go Home, got a good send-off on Wednesday, when he was entertained at a social in Humphries’ hotel.
