THE NATIONAL MORTGAGE AND AGENCY CO
report as follows : The weather since last writing has been been doing its best to keep at its worst, and in consequence all farm work has been at a stand still. A pretty large area of sown crop has been under water, and it is anticipated that some of it will be spoilt. In some districts also there is a good deal of crop also to be put in, and as the season is getting ou it is open to doubt whether it will be altogether a success when it is sown. The market for grain and produce has ruled very dull this past week, and from present appearances, there does not seem a great chance of improvement. Oats continue falling and unless a demand, arises from some unexpected quarter, there is nothing to prevent values still further declining. The eyes of holders are turning to London as a probable outlet for their holdings, but unfortunately a good deal of the grain left in Southland is not of the class to secure favour in the eyes of Home buyers and shipping it to London would only result in disappointment. We quote to day—Prime feed, Is 5d ; good, Is 4d ; medium, Is 2d to Is 3d, on trucks. Wheat.—Nothing doing. Values same as last quoted. Chaff is worth about £2, on trucks, for prime ; medium quality, 355.
