BAND CONTEST.
In the solo competitions at the band contest in Oamaru J. W. Glennie, of the Invercargill Garrison band, tied
with E. Derry, of Christchurch, for first place in the cornet solo, and, badh will receive a gold medal. It is stated that Derry declined to play off. W. J. Siddall, of the Invercargill Garrison band, was second in the trombone competition. The Oamaru Garrison band was\ first in the quickstep competition, with Timaru second and Wellington third.
