DISTRICT COURT. THE HON J. G, WARD OBTAINS HIS DISCHARGE A special sitting o£ the Distiict Court in bankruptcy was held yesterday before His Honour Judge Ward. Application was made for an order of discharge in the case of J. Gr. Ward. Mr Solomon, with him Mr Macalister, appeared on behalf of the Colonial Bank liquidators to oppose ; Mr Chapman appearing for Mr Ward. Mr Solomon in opening held that no proper books of account had been kept as required by sub-section 4 of section 137 of the Bankruptcy Act, 1892, and that the court had no power to grant the discharge. Mr Chapman argued contra,andcalledand examined J. Gr. Ward and B. A. Anderson as to the nature of the books kept. Mr Solomon having replied, His Honour granted an order of discharge, stating that, in his opinion, on the facts brought before him, no jury would convict the bankrupt on the charge of having failed to keep proper books.
