November 23, The Barrier Reefs, the latest addition to Auckland’s bullion producing mines, cleaned up for the initial run of 30 days, with the satisfactory return of PA577, fr-m the treatment of 1758 tons of ‘dime, of which 681 tons were cyanided. The mine is situated on Great Barrier Island, and opens an entirely new section of goldfields. CHINESE LIQUORS. WELLINGTON, November 23. The Chinaman Wong Sow. on whose promises some liquor was seized a few days ago, was fined £5 this morning lor selling without a license to a. compatriot. The police stated that they found 800 bottles of one Chinese liquor, 24 of another, and 82 of a third. Such liquo; s usually passed the Customs as medicinal wine, and that seized had already paid duty. The Magistrate ordered the liquor to he-kept pending an application to the Gr •.•eminent that it he not confiscated, but not to be returned 'to the defendant. '

A WOULD-BE SUICIDE. ■ John Passon, who attempted suicide at Paikakariki was ordered by the Magistrate to enter into his own recognisance of £lO to come up for sentence when called upon. RAILWAY WORKSHOPS. INVERCARGILL, November 23. The Minister of Railways to-day informed a deputation that the Department had decided to acquire blocks 5 and 6, at present mainly occupied by residence sites, for railway workshops. The area comprises eleven acres, and can be extended when desired by reclamation of the foreshore.
