The Council rejected ike Industrial Arbitration Bill by a majority of 15. (Quotations from New Zealand's experience figured largely in tlie debate. Dr McLaurin quoted letters which he bad received from Mr F. G. Ewington, in which be declared that the Act had worked much mischief in New Zealand, and had been repeatedly amended. The law worked vexatiously and to the prejudice of trade, and was a. symbol of perpetual industrial war. It had been used as an instrument of political patronage to labour, .'inti of defiance to capital, and defeated Pa rii ament ary candidates bad been consoled with seats on Conciliation Boards. He also quoted the Auckland “ Herald ” and the pronouncements of Mr MacGregor, an ex-Councillor. Mr Lyne informed the House this morning tliat the Government would shortly discuss the situation.
