BOWLING.
The Wairaate Bowling Club opened their green yesterday afternoon with some eclat, a match being played, South Canterbury v. Oamaru. The Waimate Brass Band gave their services, and the ladies of Waimate provided afternoon tea, and the bowlers of Waimate prepared other hospitalities for their visitors from north and south, allies and opponents respectively. The match of six rinks was won by Oamaru with a score of 128 to 94. The following were the scores, Timaru-Waimate players named first;— .
