WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.
(By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON, March 12. The Wesleyan Conference spent the morning in dealing with the various balance sheets of connexial properties. When the Wellington Native and Destitute Children’s Trust was under discussion, several members spoke strongly on the necessity of at once establishing an orphanage. It was resolved that the members of the Wellington Trust earnestly request the conference to establish an orphanage. The Rev. Mr Morley and the Rev. Mr Isitt cited cases where Wesleyan orphans had been sent to Roman Catholic institutions. All honour, Mr Morley said, to the Roman Catholic Church for taking these children, but it was a reflection on the Wesleyan Churches that no such institution exists among themselves. The resolution was carried. The foreign missions then came under discussion. It was thought by several that in order to make foreign mission meetings more successful, advantage should be taken of the experience of the returned missionaries now residing in New Zealand. TheConferenceaffirtned the principle that the colony should support at least one missionary sister in the foreign missionary field. The cost for the first year including outfit would be £7O. Several members thought that ade quate provision should be made in the ease of a breakdown in health.
