THE PRESS ASSOCIATION.
(By Telegraph.) AUCKLAND, October 24. At the annual meeting of the United Press Association there was a good attendance of shareholders. The report showed that there had again been a loss on the ordinary year’s working, on this occasion amounting to £6OO. A new contract is being arranged for a full supply of European and Australian cables. Referring to the report of the Copyright Telegrams Committee, the directors of the association point out that the results of the enquiry showed that beyond the question of amount payable for entrance fees and the fact that subscribers are not permitted to share in controlling the affairs of the registered company of which they are shareholders, there was nothing in the evidence (except some statements that could have been easily refuted had the Committee given the officers of the Association an opportunity) that reflected in the slightest degree on the fairness of the Association
as a business organisation. The directors also pointed out that it is open to the subscribers who are not shareholders to become so on payment of a small sum, and that this fact should absolutely dispose of any discontent on this account. Mr J. L. Wilson and Mr L. Blundell were unanimously re-elected directors. Mr Fenwick, of the Otago Daily Times, was unanimously elected chairman of directors.
