THE BANDS CONTEST.
(By Telegraph.) DUNEDIN. October 23. The brass bands contest was concluded this evening, when the selection “Tannhauser ” was played. This proved to be longer than the test piece of the previous evening, and although a start was made at 6 p.m. the last band did not finish until 11.30. Mr T. Bulch’s decision was announced a little before midnight. The following is the result, including the points : Contest Selection.—lst prize, £100; 2nd, £SO; 3rd, £3O ; 4th, £2O. Oamaru Garrison, 192 points 1 Wellington Garrison, 170 points ... 2 Kaikorai, 165 points 3 Invercargill Garrison, 148 points ... 4 Dunedin Engineers, 141 points ... 5 Timaru Garrison, 136 points 6 Stanmore, 126 points 7 Dunedin Garrison, 123 points 8 Dunedin Citizens, 122 points 9 Invercargill City Guards, 120 points t Dunedin Navals, 120 points t Waimate, 108 points 12 Oamaru were first in both selections. The following is the result of the B Flat Cornet Solo. E. Derry, Christchurch Garrison 19J points 1 J. W. Glennie, Invercargill Garrison 17 points 2 Twelve competed.
