Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Per Press Association. Sydney, January 14. An English cattle dealer who is visiting here, and who is engaged in the live cattle trade, has purchased 220 head for shipment to England. He strongly condemns the practice of local butchers in handling meat which he asserts should rest for 24 hours'before being killed and then be hung in a chilling chamber before it-4s-offered -to the-publie. He also strongly urges the value of chilling beef instead of freezing for the English market. He believes that chilled meat .would stand the'voyage all ; right, and would realise more than the frozen article. London, January 14. The rumours connected with the Victorian banks have had the effect of cans-
ing a fall of 1 per cent, in that colony’s 5 per cent, stock. The shipments of 8000 tons of tallow from the colonies in December have demoralised the market, and business is almost at a standstill.
(Special to Press Association.) London, January 13. The Globe says that the Australian colonies threaten to flood the English market with millions of eggs, but that it would be much preferable to develop the wine industry. The latter would only have France to compete against and would not add to the troubles of the British farmer.
