(By Telegraph.) Body Found. AUCKLAND, January 14. The body of the missing man, John Slaney, was found floating in the river, near Helensville. The Perjury Cases. The three remaining men in the perjury case in connection with the Bowden assault affair, namely, Albert Dryland, Thomas Kernoh, and James Hay, have been committed for trial. Bail was allowed. Body Pound. NAPIER, January 14. The dead body of Huschorf was found in the Tutaekuri river, near Puketapu, on Saturday. At the inquest an open verdict was returned. Committed. Joseph Foggan, alias Mason, was committed for trial for entering the Kaikoura Post Office and stealing therefrom a cheque for £B7 and other property. Thomas Bells, who was with Foggan when theburglary was committed, turned Queen’s evidence. Nice Times of It. WELLINGTON. January 14. The Governor and party and othergentlemen make a trip to the Auckland, Campbell, Bounty, and Antipodes Islands by the Hinemoa on the next trip leaving the Bluff on the 29th instant. The Tariff Commission. The Tariff Commission will consist of the seven members of the House of Representatives mentioned on Saturday. Statistics of the Colony. The estimated population of the colony orr December 31st was 686,100, against 672,265 twelve months before. Sudden Death.
Mrs Kenalls, wife of a publipan at Ngahurangha was found dead in bed at 4 a.m. She had spoken to her husband two hours before, complaining of a headache but refused to have a doctor, thinking that it was merely a temporary indisposition. A Lark, or Suicide ? NEW PLYMOUTH, January 14. The Inglewood correspondent wires to the the Herald that a young man named Robert Parker, a cadet, residing with Mr Orr, farmer, on the Egmont Road, is missing. He left his swag on the road with a note that he was tired of life. The same young man was lost in the bush some time ago. , Bowling. DUNEDIN. January 14. A considerable number of bowlers have arrived for the tournament which commences on Tuesday, to-morrow being devoted to club matches. Man Missing. News from Coal Island states that Charles Myers, a German, has been missing for about a fortnight. It was supposed that he was lost in the bush, and the miners turned out to search for him. It has 'since been found that a charge of dynamite is missing, and the belief is that Myers has committed suicide. Myers, who went to Coal Island from Lawrence, was quiet, unobtrusive, and generally liked. Drowning Accident. Thomas Bowman and John Robertson were drowned last night while attempting to board the dredge Dunkeld in the Clutha river. Attempted Suicide. George Henderson, who was before the Court last week, on a charge of theft from his employer and remanded for the report of the probation officer, attempted suicide yesterday by cutting an artery in his left wrist with a penknife. His injuries are not very serious. Mining. The Sew Hoy Dredging Company have returned 87 ozs retorted gold from two dredges for nine days.
