COST OF THE WAR.

Mr Edgar Crammomi, lecturing at ihe Bankers' Institute, estimated the real coat of the war as follows (the figures are all in milliona sterling) :—Britain £3500, France £5450, Italy £I9OO, Belgium £SOO, Germany £B7OO, equivalent to 12 per cent of Britain's national wealth, 25 of the French, 20 of Italian, and 26 of German. He pointed out that the moderate decrease of the wealth of the United Kingdom was set off by the substantial incroase in the overseas Dominions and possessions, He estimated the wealth of the Empire at £44,080 millions, compared with £24,986 in 1910, and the animal income at £7650, compared with £3332.
