Mr Lloyd George stated that there had heen .uo communication before the coop d’etat between Allied representatives In Germany and leaders ox the coup d’etat. In view of the rapidly changing situation in Genhany at present, the Goverment had not considered any fresh statement of poirev possible. The matter would bo further considered presently. lie gave an assurance, that Government and the Allies intended to see that the Peace Treaty was ob-
served. Mr Lloyd George said that the latest reports from Germany state that is is hoped that the Centre Democratic Party and the Socialists would form a provisional Government in Berlin to carry on affairs tiil cehnite arragements were made with the old Government at Stuttgart, The resignation of Yon Kapp was doubtless due to the fact that bis position had become impossible owing to .popular disapproval, the refusal of the old Government to negotiate, the unreliability ofjnany of his troops, and the growing disorder. Maay officers in Berlin had stated tmifthey had been tricked into supporting the coup d’etat, and announced their to the old Government. ' The most serious factor is the attitude of the Independents who refuse to co-operate Vvitii either Government except on terms amounting to the establishment of a Soviet Republic. Grave disorders are expected all over the country owing to the revival of the Spart-ncist movement.
