Mr Byrnes, speaking in the House of Representatives, bitterly attacked Admiral Sims. He called him an Anglophile,, and said ;he should not have divulged anything a superior officer told him. Mr Byrnes said Admiral Sims deserved to be dishonourably discharged from the Navv. Mr Byrnes added that Admiral 'Sims’ “efforts to flatfceOho British'by slandering the army and navy of the United States would meet with the contempt of every true Englishman as it did of every true American.
