Llovd’s register shows that the total "output of the world’s merchant shipbuilding during 1919 was 7,144,000 tons, an increase of 1,697,000 compared with 1918 and 8,811,000 compared with 1913, which was a pre-war record year. Figures for the war period show the output of the Allied and neutral c ountries as follows. —1914, 2,852,000; 1915, 1,201,000; 1916, 1,688,000; 1917> 2 937,000; 1918, 5,447,000. The United States contributed 4,085,000 to 1919, a total of 7,144,000, the United Kingdom 1,620,000, which was still 311,000 tons below the 1913 record. The total tonnage launched in the British Dominions was 359,000, which was an increase of 79,000 over 1918, The Japanese figures reached an easy record of 11,000, nearly equalling the entire output of Japan in the 22 years—lß92 to 1913.
