TAIHAPE NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent. The members of the Old Girls' Hockey Club celebrated their recent win in the Hintz Challenge Cup mateh by holding an impromptu social and dance, which was well attended.

The Taihape Athletic Club proposes holding a sports meeting on New Year's Day, and has been granted the use of the Oval Domain for that purpose. The subsidy granted Taihape Borough Council in connecion wijih Peace Celebrations amounted to £3ou. The Maoris have so far raised £125 towards cost of providing a suitable memorial to those soldiers who lost their lives in the war. The pakehas have followed the Maori example, and are making arrangements to raise -the necessary funds for a memorial. The Maori and Pakeha funds will be combined for the purpose of providing one suitable memorial.

Mr H. B. Bennett, who for some time past has occupied the. position of Chairman of Directors of Taihape Co-operative Dairy Company, was entertained by the Directors on Wednesday, and presented with a silver entree dish as s mark of appreciation of his sarvices to the Company and to the suppliers. . Docking has been completed in the greater portion of the district, but the lambing percentages have generally been slightly below average. Mr Jas. Gerrand, of Siberia Station, was entertained by the station hands and presented with a case of silver mounted Loewe pipes prior to his departure from the district. Shearing has been commenced on some of the stations, and will be general within the nest six weeks. The new concrete saleyards erected by the Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Co., were opened by the Deputy Mayor (Mr J. K. Cunninghame) on Wednesday. "A smoke concert was held in the evening, and was well attended.

A meeting of those willing to assist in arranging the annual children's ball was held on Tuesday, but was attended by only ten or twelve persons. It was decided to forego the ball this year and to arrange a
