MANGAWEKA NOTES.
Prom Our Own Correspocideent. There is not' much of great public interest happening among us. On Sabbath morning, loth, we were shaken up somewhat by an earthquake, but the duration of the shock was shor t and not alarming. Mrs Burnett, of Lower Kawhatau, who has been suffering from heart weakness and general debility, and has been under treatment in Wanganui Hospital, and amongst friends in that town since February, returned to her home on Saturday much improved in health. We all wish her a still further recovery. Nominations for one member to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Town Board are being called for by the clerk. It is to bo hoped that some one with good business ability will come forward to assist in ! keeping the town in good repair. There is plenty to do that needs to he done, hut economy is essential. Tfle third of a series of dances in aid of the Bowling and Tenuis Club’s pavilion was held on Thursday night, when all present enjoyed themselves, and the fund was augmented in proportion. An attempt is to be made to form a tife and drum baud. Rev. J. R. McFarland asks the public to meet in the Seddon Memorial Room on Tuesday evening to discuss the proposal, and a Cinderella dance will be held early in July to raise funds for the purchase of the necessary instruments. Constable Farmer, an enthusiast in such baud work, will probably be asked to conduct this 1 one, should it be formed.
