MARTON SWIMMING CLUB

SUCCESSFUL EVENING’S SPORTS.

The fust meeting of the season under the ausp ces of the above club was held in the Manicpial Baths last evening, and the attendance proved a record ,fo the Clnb. The events were well contested and every heat resulted in a very close finish, which testified to Handioapper Wood’s adjustment ability. V. Reid and J. Johnston, of Wanganui, competed in several events, the former winning the 25 yards open and 75 yards open, and the latter the 35 yards, boys under 18. J. Dudley, of Marten, received a great ovation on winning the 50 yards open. The meeting was capably managed by the following officials: —Handicapper and starter, Mr R F Wood; judges, Messrs F L de Berry, A Way, A J Sutcliffe, S J Gibbons and R E Beckett: timekeepe, Mr J Blackwell; check starter, Mr S Hunt; costume steward, Mr Jas Wilson; door steward, Mr W supervisor and secretary, Mr A V Brown ; result board steward, Mr W H Burgess.
