SOLDIERS SETTLEMENTS.
AN INTERESTING RETURN.!; Per Press Association, Wellington, August 13. An official return has been supplied by the Hon. D. H. Guthrie regarding soldier settlements. It that in Auckland, 100 sections have been selected, and 26 are unsolected. There hns been three forfeitures in the district, all on the one settlement. In Hawke's Bay all the sections offered have been selected, and there have been no forfeitures. ■ In Taranaki 16 sections have been s leeted, and two have not been taken up. There have been two forfeitures.
In Wellington Province there have been 105 sections taken up and one remains unselected, but there have been 29 forfeitures, very-few of them for reasons which could have been foreseen hv the Government,
In Marlborough, (> sections have been selected, and there are six remaining, including one that his been forfeited.
In Nelson only one piece of land has been purchased, aua it has not yet been ottered.
In Canterbury 33 sections have been selected and there are 12 remaining, and one has been forfeited for domestic reasons.
In Otago there have bvon 0 sections settled, and there are 35 uaselected, but it appears that at least 20 of them have not yet been on the market. In Southland there are 10 sections occupied and four unsettled.
