A fire at St. Louis practically destroyed the whole of a city block. Though every available fire man was on the scene shortly after the start. Jhe fire got beyond con trol, and the place became a seeth ing mass of flames. The roof caved in, carrying down several floors. Twenty out of 135 people who had rooms in ; the building have been accounted for. The bodies of seven who jumped from the fourth floor were found in the street. It is be lieved that over a hundred perished.
