LABOUR TROUBLES.
A MODERATE DEMAND. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. London, March 9. The National Agricultural Labour ers’ Union is initiating a campaign in tbe north-west of Norfolk to in crease wages to 21s weekly, and to obtain a Saturday half holiday.
BUTCHERS’ STRIKE. Sydney, March 9, Tbe bulk of the butchers’ shops have re-opened, but the supply la still below the , demand, pending slaughtering getting into full swing. A renewal of the trouble was threatened this morning. • The beef slaughtermen refused to resume, demanding a week's wages in' lieu of notice. As the result of a ballot later in the day they waived the claim and decided to resume to-mor row. A number of shopmen are still oat, but it is expected that they will be absorbed when trade reaches the normal in a few days. Mr Justice Heydon granted an application on behalf of both masters and men, varying the award by fix ing the hours of butchering em ployees at 49*4 weekly, making the starting time m all shops 0.30.
