Mr Harold Baker, replying to a question in the House of Commons, said Government was satisfied that the Montagu Company had acted as brokers and not as dealers in the purchase of silver for the Indian Government. Received November 28, 9 a.m. London, November 37. The conference between Mr Lloyd George and the doctors has concluded, and there are indications of a possible settlement. Before the Parliamentary Committee appointed to consider the Trade Unions Bill the Labour representatives proposed an amendment making contribution to : a political fund a condition of admssion to trade unions in future. Sir Rufus Isaacs refused to accept it. Mr Ramsay MacDonald urged that unions ought to have the right to impose all rules on new members, although existing members secured the right to contract out. The amendment was rejected by 35 to 10.
