ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

At the imprest on George Balk who was run over on 'Friday and died in the hospital the same night, the evidence showed that he and another had a drive to Wallaoetown Hotel and had drinks but were sober. Ball attempted to drive standing up and foil out and was run over. Ho got iqi unaided and later spoke jocularly of the mishap. Afterwards he felt a pain in his side and a doctor found several ribs broken. Tho verdict was accidentally run over, no blame being attached to anyone. Blenheim, June 17. J An inmate of the prison camp at Dnmgree, Charles Hamilton Moir, aged 27, who was serving a sentence of 18 months, was drowned iu tho Awatere River on Saturday-after-noon. A gang of prisoners were collecting firewood, and Moir waded out to secure a floating log, which struck him and carried him out of Ids depth. Another prisoner had a narrow escape in trying to rescue the man. The body was recovered in ten minutes, but life was extinct.
