THE CHRISTCHURCH TRAGEDY.

Per Press Association CnniSTcnUECH, April 26. An inquest was held this afternoon touching the death of Alfred Hellyer, who was arrested on Sunday for child murder and who was found in his cell in an unconscious condition on Monday afternoon and died at the hospital later in the evening. Evidence was given that Kellyer while in the look-up had been given the contents of a phial which had been taken away from him with his other property when he was searched on beingarrested The bottle was found to contain fragments of morphia and morphia was also discovered in the stomach. A verdict was returned that death was due to morphia taken by accused while in a state of insanity.
