At the Opera House nest Wednesday will be inaugurated a new season under the management of Sir J. O. Williamson—with- the first appearance in this city of Andrew Mack, one of the foremost delineators of Irish character on the stage of the present day, supported by his own company of players. Since the date Dion Boucicault visited Australasia some twenty years ago, no really adequate representations of Irish plays have been given in this country, Since then, a now generation has arisen, and tho old fashioned Irish drama has - undergone many important changes. Playgoers will now be afforded an opportunity of witnessing an entirely new and delightful form of -' entertainment which has attained immense popularity throughout America, and Australia fully endorsed that sentiment two years ago, wheu"|almost unprecedented enthusiasm* was inspired by this popular young artist in such works as “Tom Moore,” a play of the most fascinating romantic charm, which has attained to tho greatest popularity wherever presented. In this play, founded on the life of the Irish poet, Mr Mack, who has a voice of great sweetness and charm, will sing some of Moore’s popular melodies.

The plays of Mr Mack’s repertoire do not present grotesque exaggerations of Irish mannerisms, of which we have had too many in the socalled Irish plays presented during the past few years, but the romantic pleasant and poetic, temperament of the well bred natural Irishman as he really is. No doubt this refreshing change, contributed togethr with the highly acclaimed talents of the artist and the merits of his ' supporting company, to he sensational success of his Australasian tour two years ago when he established a reputation which might be envied by any star of the present day. * The Marton season is limited to one night.
